Tirawa Acres is a small family run equestrian centre nestled on the banks of the Grand River in southern Ontario owned by Joost Heersche and Evelyn Huber. After a number of years of developing a spectacular herd of quality sporthorses, Evelyn’s Respirologist recommended she sell all of her horses in the interest of her health, in light of her worsening allergies and asthma. After some research, we made the difficult decision to sell most of our horses. Many years ago we had visited Yanagi Stables Curly Horses in Mansfield Ontario. We went back and after more research, we have made the switch to Curly Horses. For Evelyn, they have proved to be hypo-allergenic. We have enjoyed our experience of learning about this unique and tractable breed. Curly horses tend to be willing, quiet, excellent amateur horses. The Curly breeders, such as Trish Rosborough at Yanagi Stables www.inetsonic.com/yscurlies and Isabelle Checroune of Ranch Namaspamoos curlyquebec.com among others have been incredibly generous in sharing their knowledge and time with us to allow us to gather a lovely small herd of Curlies. We look forward to being able to apply our philosophy of providing sound, sane enjoyable sport horses to horses who happen to have gorgeous curls.
We are thrilled to have been able to arrange a lease of the legendary Spartacus* from Sandra Hendrickson of Greycoat Stables in Indiana. The addition of the USDF recognized stallion’s genes to our collection of curly mares, as well as to our Trakehner mare (who I haven’t had the heart to part with) should send us well on our way to being able to provide spectacular sport horses to the Curly enthusiast.
